A piece I worked on. I don’t have a name for it yet. Horrible documentation, I know. Anyway:
It’s a reflective geodesic sphere that is meant to hang and spin like a disco ball.
The digital projection is of a home video, which was taken on a point&shoot by my brother in Vietnam in 2009. I used a hex editor to cause the video to glitch.
Pretty colors were produced, and an aurora-like light show occurred when reflected off of the sphere. There was also a two-dimensional shadow on the wall (which looked like a gaping hole in the digital projection) and it pulsated as the sphere spun.
It was inspired by a new social phenomenon I learned about called “Hate Reading.” Throughout my process, the meaning evolved, and I was mostly trying to illustrate “self-identity,” but take it as you will.
